Republican Burgess Owens narrowly defeated McAdams to regain the congressional seat for the Republican Party in 2020 and was re-elected with over 61% of the vote in 2022 and 2024.
 Most recently, 
incumbent Burgess Owens (R) defeated Katrina Fallick-Wang (D), Vaughn R. Cook (United Utah Party), and M. Evan Bullard (Unaffiliated) in the general election for U.S. House Utah District 4 on November 5, 2024.

Some 85 percent of the district is concentrated in Salt Lake County and includes a portion of Salt Lake City, which is shared with the 1st and 2nd districts; it also includes parts of Utah and Juab counties and all of Sanpete County. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of R+14, it is the most Republican district in Utah.

- **Redistricting is changing the map:** 
On November 10, 2025, a district judge rejected a Republican-drawn map, instead selecting a map proposed by the League of Women Voters of Utah and Mormon Women for Ethical Government. The map places most of Salt Lake County into the same district, giving the 1st district a Democratic lean.
 
These new district lines take effect with the November 2026 election.
