As of right now, **Florida's 20th Congressional District seat is vacant**. 

Your previous representative, Democrat Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, resigned from Congress on April 21, 2026, amid an ethics investigation. 

Because the resignation occurred relatively close to the upcoming midterm elections, Governor Ron DeSantis is not expected to call a special election. The seat will likely remain vacant until the winner of the November 2026 general election is sworn in in January 2027. 

Even though the seat is empty, **you still have access to constituent services**. By federal law, the former representative's staff continues to operate the district's offices under the supervision of the Clerk of the House of Representatives. While the office cannot advocate for public policy or take legislative positions until a new representative is elected, the staff can still assist constituents with federal government agencies (such as issues with Medicare, the IRS, or Veterans Affairs).
